Last June I penned an article similar to this one entitled mind body and soul which subtly touched on the subject of building an environment that feeds your faith.
The post is filled with scriptural references and I invite you to read it when you get a chance, I often refer to it to refresh my memory and I’ve placed the link right here for you to click if inclined to do so.
As I grow in my faith there are truths that are continuously being revealed to me which led me to revisit the topic of our environment and our faith; hence today’s post.
I think that most of us will agree that our environment can easily determine our outcome if we let it. The outcome can be a positive one, or the opposite. No one has to be the product of his/her environment, the choice lies in our willingness to accept or make changes. To some those changes may come easy, but to those of you who are like me, it takes work, discipline and perseverance.
I’m going to keep it short and share three things that have helped me tremendously in the areas of “refreshing” my environment. This is something that I had to be intentional about, which brings me to the first point.
The definition of being intentional means to do things on purpose. We have to be determined to build ourselves up regardless of sacrifices we have to make. I’ll give you an example; I like to sleep, but I also have responsibilities that come in the form of children, a husband and a house. In order to be able to tend to those gifts ( yes I call them gifts) and adhere to my responsibilities as a wife and mom I need to be intentional. Much like the proverbs 31 woman, but not quite her yet; I wake early to tend to those whom God has placed under me ( my daughters) to steward. But most importantly I wake early to ensure that my nose is in the Good Book, so that I can take in what I need to face my day.
This one pretty much goes with being intentional. We make time for the things we care about. We need to carve time for prayer, reading, even if it’s only 30min of studying the Bible or 15min or prayer. Make time, it will soon become a habit and part of your environment.
What are you feeding your soul that is detrimental to your walk with Christ? What are you listening to? What are you watching? Who are you following on social media? Are those things a positive contribution to your environment or are they planting seeds that will not bear fruit? We have to be so determined in doing what’s right that we may need to remove ourselves from certain situations, circles if we want to be all that God wants us to be.
So tell me, what are some of the things you’re doing to grow your faith?
Until next time
“And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules and obey them. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.”
