There’s no denying that I’m a sucker for good photography and I’ve been blessed to work  and collaborate with some of Chicago’s best!

I recently partnered with the good folks over at TK Photography for a mini photo session and I brought my little family along. Since welcoming Micah last May, we’ve yet to snap any family pictures and they were long overdue.

I’ll  be the first to admit that taking pictures of small children is no easy feat. They are the most unpredictable creatures on the face of this earth, they go zero to one hundred very quickly.

And this is why it is of great importance to work with a photographer that has experience working with little ones. Thomas captured what I like to call “real life” moments and the essence of my family during our shoot and the pictures came out perfectly.

My fam and I are never serious! We love to laugh and that’s what pictures are all about; being able to look back and remember that very moment.

While TK Photography was in charge of picking the location, I was in charge of coordinating my family’s look.

I’m a bit cliché when it comes to family pictures, in the sense that I love for us to match our outfits. Now I know what you’re thinking, that is so lame right? You’re right! But not when it’s done tastefully!

Below I’m sharing three easy style tips on getting the most while doing the least on family picture day!

***

  1. Plan ahead! Family picture day is usually something that is planned way ahead of time, so the minute the day is locked in your calendar, start brainstorming on what kind of look you want to go for. For our photo we opted for greys and whites! They always photograph well, and although our outfits were not all the same, the color palette was.
  2. Have a plan B. Because dealing with kids you always want to pack an extra outfit. Plan A may end up having a stain on it that cannot be photoshopped.  If you’re photo shoot happens to be outside; be prepared, especially in Chicago. Much like kids, the weather can be unpredictable.
  3. Have Fun. Nothing says stylish like allowing the photographer to create memories while capturing your family’s personality. Don’t think about posing, laugh until your cheeks hurts, hold your significant other’s hands, and hug your child(ren)TK photography will capture the rest!

In Chicago and in need of quality pics? May I suggest Thomas and his team?

Until next time!
